Duane's Antique Market

We purchased an item from this business several months ago while on a visit to Alaska. The owner was cordial and very fair. We had the item shipped to our home. Through a series of mishaps it got lost in shipping. It was of course not something that's easily replaceable. The gentleman from this store worked tirelessly to find it, get it flown back to Alaska and ultimately delivered to us in the lower 48. I can only imagine how much money they lost on this transaction. But never did they complain or shift responsibility. They simply worked towards a solution that gave me the item I paid for. You don't see this level of service anymore. These folks are top rate.

Duane's Antique Market has one of the best selections of antique furniture in Alaska. There are two buildings, three floors, and two covered outdoor areas full of antique furniture. You'll find rare items inside, mostly items that you won't find in most antique stores. While I'm impressed by the selection of items packed into these buildings I'm just as amazed by some of the high prices. If you're a collector you'll pay top dollar here, but I doubt you'll find these rare items very easily - so maybe the price is worth it? Parking is limited and you'll need at least a couple hours to see everything. Again this is one of the best antique stores in Alaska, so make sure you have time and money with you. The owner was nice and chatty. He had a great attitude and LOTS of interesting finds. Much better than some of the other "antique" stores I went to while in Anchorage. This is a must do!

Fantastic Shop with an amazing collection of antiques, scrimshaw, furniture, and jewelry. Great to meet and visit with Duane and talk about his eclectic collections for sale. A rare treat!

I have a couple complaints about this establishment, not only does it seem that they get their stuff from sketchy sellers and have obnoxiously inflated prices but the entire place reeks of pee. The person who was “helping” me was very rude and came across as impatient.

If I could give no stars I would. My husband and I have been going to this store for many years and have gotten a lot from them. As of recently the store owner has become aggressive and argumentative. DO NOT mention pricing of the same or better condition items you have seen else where or you will be confronted with an argument. Due to this interaction we are now banned from the establishment all because after we talked with the owner, and then walked through the store he decided to get in my husbands face about stating how he was not going to buy what he wanted due to the HUGE price mark up on the item. The other staff at this establishment are great to deal with. If it were not for the owner and the prices this place would thrive on selling antiques.

My 16 year old son went in today, asked where he could find any train collectibles they might have. He was asked how much money he had. He told them $10. He was told the train stuff was upstairs, but he wouldn’t find anything for $10, and they’d show him where the exit door was. My son was not carrying a back pack. He greeted the people there when he entered so was clearly not trying to avoid being noticed. I get that teens aren’t always honorable but this had zero red flags other than him being a teenage boy. One who is very interested in antiques and spends most of the $$ he earns in local antique shops. We left, drove across town to Lazy Dog Antiques. He was cheerfully greeted when he walked in. He found some things he’d been keeping an eye out for. We spent more than $10 and will definitely choose to spend our $$ there in the future.
