UPDATE: This company engages in coercive and unethical conduct - they refuse to fix the damage they caused to my backyard unless I sign a FULL RELEASE OF LIABILITY and REMOVE ANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: This company charged me over $7,000 (2-3 times higher than any other quotes I received) to work on a small portion of my backyard (to redesign a 10 x 20 feet area, and add mulch and 4 plants to a planting area about half that size).

Their design and execution failed to include the most basic considerations for a yard, like drainage, a lawn size that matches their irrigation system, or even laying mulch appropriately.

The lack of drainage caused the lawn area to become compacted, with bare patches all over, and the decomposed granite path they designed to flood each time it rains. I've asked repeatedly what their plan for drainage was, and they have still refused to answer. This seems like a total failure since my yard also already has three drains incorporated into its previous designs (which they blocked off with wooden borders for some reason).

Re: mulching, in some areas it was very thin, but in others it was up to 6 inches deep. This left me with sticky mulch in my planting area that doesn't dry out when it rains, leaving it to grow mold and fungus, and be almost impossible to dig through. The mulch was also gathering flies. I think the other issue is the weed fabric they laid down - it is very thick (not like netting) and hampers the yard from drying out.

The few plants they planted in the mulching area were dying months ago. When I asked for more plants, they offered only succulents; I think it's because succulents are easy for them.

When I pointed out these issues, they tried to blame raccoons for the bare patches in the lawn and demanded I hire a "pest control company" before they would do any repairs. I pointed out that raccoons only dug at the edges of the lawn, which was actually the only areas NOT compacted / wet. Also, raccoons have absolutely nothing to do with the mulch, obviously, yet they still held my yard repairs hostage.

The wifi enabled irrigation is not worth the cost, especially since they designed my lawn area to be a size that their irrigation system is not meant for. It seemed that they learned this for the first time on the job after everything was installed. This left me with dry patches on my lawn after just a week or so.

Instead of fixing this, they again blamed raccoons. Later, their technician confirmed that it the patches were dry because no water was reaching those areas. Their fix - to put drip irrigation in the lawn, which is not appropriate for high-traffic areas. They failed to cover all the dry patches even with drip.

It seems they also were not fully familiar with working with DG. I had to research online to tell them about using DG without binder.

It was been 6 months since I paid in full (I paid in August), and so far their only fixes have been to drill a hole in the borders they built so one side of the path can drain (the other side is still flooded) and to add a couple irrigation drips.

In the meantime, it has cost me so much time/energy to respond to excuses (including providing pictures/videos). I have agreed to their repair timeline, new design proposal, and refund limit (7%), and have been patient with last minute schedule changes/ no-shows and having to clean up after visits (e.g. after one visit to dig holes in the mulch, the holes were left there, while I still wait for repairs on dates of their choosing).

After all this, believing that this project will finally be over by the end of this month, they send me more contracts to sign so that they can release their liability - again holding my yard hostage. I believe this is not legal (and at the very least it is not ethical), since we already have the original contract that governs my project, so I have refused. Throughout, they have tried to disclaim responsibility for their work.

From the initial outreach to the end, Rachel provided exceptional follow-up and customer service with no sales pressure. She was patient in walking us through the costs for the different aspects of our project and was quick to return her team's feedback and suggestions. We ultimately trusted GoGreens because of our experience with Rachel. We had other options with lower quotes, but with our event date approaching we wanted to make sure the team we brought on could handle the project and would not require too much oversight, would be reliable, and fair in their pricing. We are glad we went with them, and we look forward to working with them again. Highly recommend.

Go Green did an outstanding job landscaping our Outer Richmond backyard. They were easy to schedule with, professional, and quick to answer questions. Dorian, who supervised the project, was wonderful to work with. He gave excellent advice, was thoughtful and helpful, was generally pleasant and friendly, and even came by on weekends to make sure that everything was done right. His team of Jesus and Francisco was excellent. The work they did could have felt intrusive given the scale, but Dorian, Jesus, and Francisco were so hardworking, careful, and respectful that we felt very comfortable having them. I have never seen so much physical labor get done in such a short amount of time. Rachel, who handled logistics over the phone, was also fantastic to work with. We wouldn't hesitate to refer them to anyone looking to bring new life to their backyards!
