I used Fischer from IDU designs for some of my residential remodels , ADU,s and' room additions . We are a design build firm and sent specifications to Fischer for a slab foundation and we received plans with a raised foundation ? Also I had a two story addition we designed and sent him the design plan for the 2nd story design .The existing house had a dutch gable roof and he designed it for a hip roof .We discussed it and I approved the roof design . Unfortunately the building department did not and required a dutch gable design . He changed the elevations but failed to change the structural roof details and he failed to inform me of the change. My framer was following the structural plans and we had half the roof complete before we discovered he had changed the elevations to a dutch gable roof and told me the building department had made him change it . We had to resubmit the corrected plans after half the project was completed and it took 2 months to get the revision approved .I had to demo half the hip roof and re-frame to a dutch gable roof , this cost me around $7500 with labor and material and the homeowner was not pleased with the 2 month delay . I would not recommend IDU as with their lack of over site and failure to communicate . Their engineer Yeshen Jason Chen also failed to correct the structurals plans to a dutch gable . The building inspector asked for a detail on the fireplace extension for the same project and I sent them a generic plan from a flue manufacturer to use as a template but they stamped the generic plan and it had corrections and they would not correct it . They may be a little less costly for the plans but their mistakes will cost you a lot more in the long run.
