We recently had the pleasure of working with Paul Tamate on transforming our challenging hillside backyard, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome. From the beginning, Paul was very professional, punctual, responsive and committed to making our backyard a usable extension to our home. His staff was always also very nice, polite and helpful.

Given that we had not had any experience with this type of renovation, having someone like Paul was priceless. He asked a lot of questions to ensure the vision for the space was being realized and that we were satisfied with the progress.

Paul was also very detail oriented and helped us design a nice seating area with a firepit for entertaining friends, and recommended the right plants and trees that would complement the space. We could not be happier with our new backyard and have already enjoyed it quite a bit with friends and family. We feel very lucky we found Paul to do the work and highly recommend Tamate Landscaping for any backyard renovation project.

Paul Tamate Landscaping completed a hardscape / landscape project that reconstructed the courtyard between our two buildings. We have nothing but superlatives to offer in reviewing the company. Paul's experience as a contractor was evident in every interaction with him. He is a man of his word who met all his commitments to us professionally and to the highest level of performance. His experience was invaluable in guiding us in the selection of the best materials for our project: the flagstone quartzite pavers, stone veneer, basalt caps, a basalt columnar fountain, and Napa/Sonoma fieldstone boulders.

Our project began when Paul presented us with a preliminary design. He welcomed our input and incorporated the minor changes into the final plan. Our input was also solicited on the materials selection during the planning and construction phases. Paul assured us from the start that the project would move quickly once they began construction, and so it did. From demolition to delivery, the project was completed in three six-day work weeks. Paul's team worked daily from 7 AM to 4 PM. That the project finished on schedule (actually, faster than we anticipated) was a welcome surprise.

Paul's team of three workers, led by his excellent foreman, Noe, were courteous and accommodating beyond measure, an important quality when you have a construction project on your property for nine hours each day. in addition, we had to cross the construction area several times each day to access our rear building. His team literally offered us a kind "helping hand” many times to make sure we crossed safely..

Paul and Noe's construction skills were awesome. The project was accurately laid out according to plan across three levels of vertical elevation. They demonstrated their superb skills by excellently executing every component of the project: carpentry, masonry, and stone work, in addition to the electrical and irrigation components.

The final Project has exceeded our expectations. The skillful execution of the fine design, the complementary construction materials, and the night-time illumination bring us joy each day. Our goals were achieved. Paul Tamate Landscaping constructed for us a beautiful and harmonious garden as well as a safe circulation space between our two buildings. We look forward to the next step, planting our conifer and succulent collection in our expanded planting beds. We strongly recommend Paul Tamate Landscaping to anyone looking for a design / build landscape firm with demonstrable skill and the ability to deliver a beautiful garden project right on schedule.

Paul and his team just completed my front and back yard and I couldn't be more thrilled. The wood and stone work are gorgeous and the plant choice exceeded my expectations. I am not an easy client to work with - I am very particular - and Paul and his team made sure I was happy with every detail. Paul and his crew transformed our severely sloped into the urban oasis of our dreams. He consulted with us to figure out a workable design to create some usable space despite the challenging terrain. We landed on a design featuring several tiers of retaining walls and terraces, with an integrated staircase leading down to a dog relief area and a deck with built-in benches and a fire pit. He also helped us to refresh an existing deck and staircase to seamlessly integrate with the new hardscape. He also installed lighting, irrigation, and selected beautiful plants that will thrive in our shady yard.

Paul and his crew were simply awesome - friendly, efficient, communicative, courteous, and tidy. The estimate for the work was very reasonable, and the few change orders we made were fairly priced and easily integrated without major shifts to the project timeline. Despite some of the heaviest rains in recent memory throughout December 2022, the work was finished within a few days of the original estimate. We couldn't recommend Paul more highly!

His guys are some of the most efficient contractors I've worked with on any home project. They showed up on time every day, left the yard and the house clean each evening. We packed a lot into a small space and I appreciate that Paul and his team made the vision come together in a way that feels open and inviting without being cluttered. Paul and team did a great job designing and constructing a new deck with inset cedar hot tub. The craftsmanship around the tub edge is perfect. When I needed him to come back and make an adjustment to one of the tub's jets, he was fast, responsive, and on-time despite having moved on to another project. His overall design skills are excellent. We're already getting more use out of our chilly SF back yard than ever before. He shows up when he says he will, is good at estimating project costs and time, and is very reliable. I'd happily use him for a future project.
