This is my first ever review as I thought after all of these years of your wonderful, honest and attentive service to my treasured family heirlooms, this is to say a heartfelt thank you to the whole team for your exceptional craftwork and patience in helping me choose the appropriate fabrics for my furniture.

Really concerning experience at London Upholsterers that I think important to share.

When I received my seat it wasn’t quite right. After not being able to speak to anyone I ended up emailing and had to wait a week for a reply. The response I received was rather defensive and didn’t show much understanding as to why I was disappointed. Knowing that tone can easily be misread on email, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and go in to the shop to discuss it.

I really wish I hadn’t. I was having a reasonable conversation with someone, who understood what had gone wrong and was in the process of making it right. Then the author of the email suddenly bursts into our conversation and the hostility and aggression was so surprising, unnecessary and unwarranted I was speechless.

The more he shouted at me (and I mean shouted) the scarier and weirder it got. I found myself - as calmly as possible - asking him to step back and stop shouting. His colleague did try - rather weakly - to persuade him to leave, but he wasn’t successful. I later learnt that the author may be the owner so that might explain why his colleague didn’t feel able to intervene effectively.

Awful doesn’t begin to describe my experience as a woman on her own, being shouted at by this man, in the small and confined space of the upholstery shop, with a locked door. I doubt he had any violent intentions but when someone is behaving so erratically and inappropriately it’s not certain what they’ll do next.

When he left I told his colleague that I was shaking. He explained that the people there take their work very seriously and take complaints very personally.

When I shared my experience with a WhatsApp group I’m part, of because someone there had recommended them to us, I was amazed that 3 other women said they had separate and similar experiences with the same guy and they had avoided the shop ever since.

I’m sure they do lovely work and I’m sure they care deeply about their craft, but this behaviour is unacceptable and should be addressed.

Booked my Peter Dudgeon ( originally c.£8k) sofa in six weeks ago, agreed what I thought a very reasonable price, they said lead time about a month before they could do the job. Five weeks later they collected it and five DAYS after that they delivered it back and the quality of the workmanship is every bit as good as the original. Charming communication, very nice & helpful delivery guys, old-fashioned craftsmanship - I shall definitely use them again and have already recommended.

The whole process was seamless, from collection, fabric choice and advice all the way through to delivery. The team were a joy to work with. A wealth of experience and knowledge, totally professional and a super fun experience.

I cannot recommend London Upholsterers, part of London Craftsmen Centre, enough. I took my late father's broken down original Eames swivel chair to them after two well regarded upholsterers as well as the chair's manufacturer told us that it could not be restored, one adding it ought to be thrown away. London Upholsterers confidently asserted this was stuff and nonsense and indeed so it proved. We now have a beautifully restored chair upon which I am sitting happily as I write this review. It has been a real joy to discover this busy enterprise tucked away in Nine Elms with its friendly, highly skilled and passionate staff. Thank you all.

A big thank you for the wonderful, friendly and above all professional service on my wingback armchair that I cherish as it has been in the family for the past 100+ years. I was lost as to what fabric would bring the beauty and history of the armchair. Annie made my choice such a delight. All of my friends admired the choice of fabric and craftsmanship‎.
